The National WorldSkills Competition was hosted in Durban last week (14-16 February 2017. 32 members represented Team Western Cape in 16 different skill areas and Northlink College obtained four gold, one silver and one bronze medal, the highest medal tally amongst the participating colleges including private organisations. In response to addressing the theme of the conference, the presenters covered various aspects of addressing challenges facing our environment.

We heard that we need to engage with industry a lot more and be creative in our approach to empowering our institutions and learners, and that we need to consider changing our DNA to be more responsive. There were presentations by a few speakers on new and innovative management systems that we could implement that would assist us in capturing and reporting data more effectively and efficiently, whilst we were also reminded that we cannot do without “the internet of things”. Technology and its impact was unavoidable – and we need to keep pace!

Northlink College hits the shopping centre at Parow Centre Matriekrokkompetisie

Northlink College, the largest college in the Western Cape, took to the Parow Centre on Saturday 29 October as part of the Parow Centre Matriekrokkompetisie (Matric Ball Gown Competition). The College had the opportunity to not only be a sponsor of this event but also gave those that would like to know more about the College the opportunity to interact with the College staff at the event.

Says Curt Baker, Media Advertising and Events practitioner at Northlink College: “The College is glad to be part of this exciting opportunity and know that we are bringing the College to the community with the help and support of institutions such as Parow Centre.”

Fiddler on the Roof the musical enchanted its first live audience at Broadway in 1964. It clearly took the world by storm as it remains Broadway’s sixteenth-longest running show in history! More than half a century later the vibrant students from the Northlink College Performing Arts Department give this undying production a new dynamic.
